Using the American Month-Date-Year format today yields plenty of German 928s. Using the European (and thus German) Date-Month-Year format yields this lovely American Shelby Cobra 289 (which has English roots, just to make this more confusing).

If we were cool with calling the AC Ace a Shelby Cobra because it has a different engine, then why can’t we call the Lotus Exige with a V8 a Hennessey Venom GT?
